1967 Corvette 427
1967 corvette 427 – C2
The C2 model of the corvette was known as the mid-year model and stretched between 1963 and 1967. With its futuristic design landing in the beginning of the 60s the C2 corvette got an enormous amount of attention, and all positive. With its lines, shapes and split back window some referred to the C2 as a rocket ship, other as an UFO. The success was instant and shortly after the coupe version a convertible was created and became even more popular. The 1967 year model had only a few changes done to it since the design was so great from the beginning. The 1967 corvette 427 was one of those differences.
1967 corvette 427 – 427
The numbers 427 refers to an engine size in the 1967 model of the corvette. 327 cubic inches was the standard engine and produced 300 horsepower but could be enhanced to make 350 horsepower. The 427 cubic inches engine option was a tad expensive but could create 390, 400 and even 435 horsepower. This engine would forever be known as the big block that could be found in the 1967 corvette was the Big Block Tri-Power engine, 427 cubic inches producing an awesome 435 horsepower. It was an extreme engine that would prove its worth among buyers both then and today. Although expensive there were a lot of 1967 corvette 427 sold and those are still popular today, not only for the engine but for the special design.
1967 corvette 427 – Big block design
The 1967 corvette 427 big block was not only a monster when it came to horsepower but did also have a small difference in design which separated it from the rest. On the hood of the vehicle was a very special and distinct vent which today is known as the stinger. The form of this stinger vent stretched over the entire length of the hood and was even factory painted in a contrasting colour to make it even more highlighted. These hoods are today a priced possession of many corvette owners and some has even bought the hood alone to put on their non-big block C2 1967 corvette just because it looks cool. Many consider the big block hood with its vent to be a collector’s item. That is how special it is regarded to be.
1967 corvette 427 – Similarities
Except the impressively aggressive engine and the very characteristic hood vent there is little difference between the 1967 corvette 427 and the regular 1967 corvette. It still had the same alien design as all the other C2 models and the gill-like vents between the front wheels and the doors. The were also no changes on the interior of the vehicle, like all other 1967 corvettes it had the “sissy-bar” removed and the emergency break repositioned to between the seats where also the passenger could reach it. Like all other 1967 corvettes the 1967 corvette 427 featured a wide variety of safety features which later on would be evaluated and incorporated into the 1968 year model, the beginning of the C3 era. |
